Hydrogen bonds are made allowing water molecules to cling to each other.

Water molecules are attracted to polar surfaces /objects.

The combined action of adhesion and cohesion that allows water to be pulled into a paper towel or flow up the xylem of a plant to its leaves.

Some small insects can walk across the surface of water. This is caused by more hydrogen bonds among the water molecules at the surface. The water does not try to bond with the air, so their cohesive bond is stronger.
