They intended to cripple the USA's economy from the inside

On Xmas Day 1979 Afghanistan was invaded by Soviet troops who killed leader Amin

On New Year's Day in 1980 Babrak Karmal was their new leader, flown in from the USSR

Leader Amin allowed Soviets into the country but they overthrew him and took hold of Afghanistan

Their new leader was Leonid Brezhnev from the USSR

24th Dec 1980 Afghanistan was invaded by Soviets who respected their country

25th Dec 1980 Afghanistan was invaded by the USSR who killed Amin
