What is Standard English?

Standard English does not contain any local dialect words or phrases or colloquial, everyday words or phrases it is the accepted formal version of English used in school, work, and other formal situations.

Standard English is the common use of English by people in their everyday lives. This can include local dialect words and phrases and colloquial words and phrases.

Standard English is formal, academic English used by professional such as lawyers, teachers, and politicians. It includes Latin terms and is not the type of English used by ordinary people in their daily lives.

When responding to the imaginative writing tasks you must first choose an appropriate [blank_start]form[blank_end] to write in. This could be a [blank_start]narrative[blank_end], a [blank_start]description[blank_end] or a [blank_start]monologue[blank_end]. Whichever form you choose you must write in [blank_start]continuous prose[blank_end] which means oragnising your writing into a series of linked, flowing [blank_start]paragraphs[blank_end] written using [blank_start]Standard English.[blank_end]
You may include some [blank_start]dialogue[blank_end] in your response if you choose to write a [blank_start]narrative[blank_end] but you should keep any [blank_start]dialogue[blank_end] to a [blank_start]minimum[blank_end] as [blank_start]dialogue[blank_end] is not generally written in paragraphs and tends to include [blank_start]colloquial[blank_end] language.
Remember that you must [blank_start]never[blank_end] provide a [blank_start]poem[blank_end] or a [blank_start]play script[blank_end] in response to the imaginative writing tasks as these [blank_start]forms[blank_end] do not allow you to write in continuous prose.
