WATER FORMULA H20
AMMONIA FORMULA NH3
CARBON DIOXIDE CO2
CHLORINE Cl2
HYDROGEN H2
OXYGEN O2
RELATIVE ATOMIC MASS (Ar) Multiply each relative isotopic mass by its relative abundance then add up the results Then divide by the sum of the abundances
Relative Formula Mass (Mr) Find the relative atomic masses then add them all together to get the relative formula mass
Empirical Formula Empirical Formula of glucose C6H12O6 numbers in molecular formula are 6 : 12 : 6 simplify the ratio by the biggest number that goes into 6 12 6 so 6 divide all three numbers by 6 and the empirical formula is CH2O
Avagrados Constant (You will need to calculate number of particles) 6.02x10 to the power of 23
Number of Particles Example: Oxygen How many atoms are there in five moles of oxygen? Oxygen has 2 atoms it is O2 Avogrados Constant multiplied by number of moles 6.02x10 to the power of 23 multiplied by 5 = 3.01 x 10 to the power of 24 there are 2 atoms in oxygen so multiply it by 3.01 x 10 to the power of 24. so the answer is 6.02 x 10 to the power of 24
