Frage Antworten
What is a microscope? A microscope is an instrument used by scientists to study small specimens up close.
Define what a specimen is? A specimen is an object placed onto the stage of a microscope to be looked at through it.
What is magnification? Magnification is when different instruments are used to make an image look larger than it really is.
Name some parts of a microscope? Some include: 1. Ocular lens 2. Objective lens 3. Stage
What is a light microscope? A light microscope is a microscope that works by passing light through a thin slice of the specimen.
Name two types of light microscopes? Two types include: 1. Monocular microscope 2. Binocular microscope
What is the difference between these two microscopes? A monocular microscope only has one ocular lens while a binocular microscope has two ocular lenses.
What is an electron microscope? An electron microscope works on small beams of electrons that magnify the image more than light microscopes do.
Up to how many times can an image be magnified through an electron telescope? Up to a million times magnification.
What are two types of electron microscopes? TEM and SEM
What does TEM stand for? Transmission electron microscope
What does SEM stand for? Scanning electron microscope
Why does a specimen need to be a thin slice to look at it through a light microscope? A specimen needs to be a thin slice so that the light can pass through to magnify it.
What is the maximum magnification for a light microscope? One thousand times
What is the maximum magnification for a stereo microscope? One hundred times
How do you find the total magnification of a microscope? Multiply the ocular lens magnification by the objective lens magnification.
If the objective lens on a microscope had a magnification of x100 and the ocular lens x40, what is the total magnification? Objective lens magnification: x100 Ocular lens magnification: x40 Total magnification: 100x40= x400
Name four features of a light microscope. 1. Has a magnification x1000 2. Provides a two dimensional image 3. When you move object it appears to move in the opposite direction. 4. Light passes through the object.
Name four features of a stereo microscope. 1. Has a magnification x100 2. Provides a 3D image 3. The object when moved appears to move the same way. 4. Light reflects off object.
Name four features of a TEM. 1. electrons pass through specimen. 2. black and white but can be coloured to increase contrast. 3. Provides view of inner structure.
Name four features of a SEM. 1. Electrons reflect off specimen. 2. Black and white but can be coloured using computers. 3. Magnifies view greatly.
Define fiend of view? The part of the specimen seen through the microscope.
