His operas point to later Russian music with Russian folk melodies, 5/4 meter, whole tone scale. Second opera was a failuer, he renounced Russia and moved to Germany. |

Fallower of Wagner, Liszt, Berloiz using their chromatic writing in highly personalized style. Evolved complex harmonic language. "Mysic Chord" Composed many piano works. |
