What do we mean by Natural Luminous? Give an example. Gives off light Naturally example - The Sun
What is Artificial Luminous? Give an example. Gives off light - from man-made objects- example - candle
What is Non-Luminous? Give an example. Reflects Light example : The Moon
Why does this t-shirt look red and this shorts look blue? All the other colours are absorbed and the t-shirt reflects red and the shorts reflects blue.
Why do we see black? It does not reflect any colour It absorbs all the light
What is white light made up of? It is made up of all the colours of the rainbow.
What is Dispersion? The separation of white light. When white light passes through a different medium (glass, water), refraction takes place as the colours do not have the same velocity so they separate. Thus the rainbow.
What is refraction? The bending of light. The less molecules, the faster light travels so the bigger the angle. The more the molecules, the slower light travels, so the smaller the angle.
What material allows SOME light rays to pass? -Translucent- Allows Privacy
What material allows ALL light rays to pass? -Transparent- Does not allow privacy
Which material does NOT allow light rays to pass? Opaque
What cause shadows? The absence of light
What do shadows prove to us? Shadows prove that light travels in straight lines. No shadow will be formed If they didn’t travel in straight lines.
What is a mirror? A smooth surface that reflects light to form images.
What is a Plane Mirror? A flat smooth mirror in which an image appears upright
What is a Concave Mirror? Mirror surface is curved inward
What is a Convex Mirror? Mirror surface curved outward
Concave Lens Concave lenses bend the light rays so that they never meet.
Convex Lens Convex lenses bend the light rays so that they meet at a point.

Cornea Light is initially refracted in the eye
Iris Adjusts pupil size
Pupil lets in light into the eye
Lens It is a convex lens. The lens refracts light onto the retina.
Retina Contains light receptors which receive visual information
Optic Nerve Sends info to the brain. The brain produces the image, the right way up.
