What does the plasma carry? Disolved food substances such as glucose, carbon dioxide from from the tissue to the lung, hormones from the glands to the target, waste substances such as urea.
How are red blood cells adapted to their function? They are very small so that they can pass through the smallest blood vessels. They are shaped like biconcave discs so that they have a large surface area to exchange oxygen quicker. Contains haemoglobin to carry oxygen. They don't have nucleus so that more oxygen can fit in.
What is oxyheamoglobin? Haemoglobin reacting with oxygen in the lungs. The reaction is reversible.

Name the different blood vessels and name their jobs: -Arteries transport blood away from the heart to the tissues. -Veins transport the blood back to the heart from the tissues. -Capillaries link arteries to veins and allow materials to pass between the blood and tissues.
Explain how the structure of each blood vessel is adapted to its function: -Arteries have a thick and elastic wall to resist the high pressure. -Veins have large lumen and valves to try and keep the blood moving back to the heart. -Capillaries have permeable walls so that substances can be transferred between the blood and tissue.
Explain how the different parts of the heart work together to circulate the blood: -Left and right atria receive blood from veins. -Left hd right ventricles pump blood out into arteries. -Semilunar, tricuspid and bicuspid valves prevent back flow of blood. -Pulmonary veins and vena cava are the main veins carrying blood back to the heart. -Aorta and pulmonary arteries carry blood away from heart.
The left ventricle has a thicker wall than the right. Why? It has to pump blood all around the body rather than just to the lungs.
What is a double circulatory system? It is when blood is pumped to the lungs and returns to the heart to be pumped to the body.
