Frage Antworten
What are the two nerves involved with controlling heart rate? Vagus nerve Sympathetic nerve
What is the function of the vagus nerve? To release acetycholine next o the cells of the SAN to slow heart rate
What is the function of the sympathetic nerve? Releases noradrenaline which makes heart rate faster
What are the two drugs used to adjust a patient's heart rate? Digoxin Propranol
What does digoxin do? How? Increases the force of cardiac contractions. It inhibits the Na-K pump in the plasma membrane of the muscle cells. As a result Na ions collect in the cell, along with Ca ions to increase the force of contractions
What does propranol do? How? Reduces the persons' heart rate. It reduces the effects of noradrealin on the SAN
What are the possible side effects of propranol? Angina
