What is speed? | How fast you are travelling with no regard to direction. (30 mph or 20 m/s etc) |
What is velocity? | Velocity is the same as speed but with the direction specified. (30 mph north, 20 m/s 060°, etc) |
How to you work out the speed from this time-distance graph? | Gradient = speed so you divide the vertical by the horizontal. For example, between 300 meters and 20 seconds, you would do 300/20 which makes 15 m/s. |
What do the flat sections mean on these distance-time graphs? | The straight lines mean that the object is stationary - not moving. |
How does the steepness of the gradient relate to the speed of the object moving. | The steeper the gradient, the faster the object is travelling. |
What do the curves represent? | Acceleration/deceleration depending on direction of curve. |
Explain what each curve means - steepening and levelling? | Steepening means that the object is accelerating faster and faster. Levelling means that the object is decelerating slower and slower. |
What do the straight lines mean going up or down? | The straight lines mean that the object is travelling at a steady speed. Going up means it is going away from the start point and going down means it is coming back to the start point. |
