Frage Antworten
An object/material which you can see through it is... transparent
An object/material which you can't see through it is... opaque
When an object it is easy to break, it is... fragile
How many forms does matter have? It has 3 forms: -Solid -Liquid -Gas
What matters if you heat ice? It will melt and it turns into liquid
What matter if you put a liquid into the freezer? It will freeze and become a solid again
How is a physical change? It is reversible (we can turn the substance back to its original shape)
Can you explain an irreversible physical change? When we break a glass vase. We change the appearance of the vase, the chemical properties are the same, but we can't change the pieces back to their original form (the vase)
What does it happen if there is a chemical change? A new substance is produced
How are chemical changes? They are irreversible.
In which chemical change ash and smoke are produced? Combustion
In which chemical change metals react with oxygen and water? Oxidation
Which substance is produced in oxidation? Rust
When organic material decomposes, which chemical change occurs? Putrefaction
What is a mixture? It is something that contains two or more different materials
Can you name examples of mixtures? Air (made of several gases) Salty water (salt, water and minerals) Rocks and minerals Salad
Can you see the different substances in homogeneous mixtures? We can't see them, but it sometimes is possible to separate the substances. Example: milk with chocolate mayonnaise
Can you see the different substances in heterogeneous mixtures? We can see them, it's easy to separate substances. Examples: Fruit salad
Which methods are used to separate mixtures? Sieving Filtration Evaporation
Which method can be used to separate solids of different sizes? Sieving
Which method can be used to separate solids from liquids? Filtration
Which method can be used to separate a solid that is dissolved in water? Evaporation
What is mass? It is the amount of matter something contains
How can we measure mass? In grams (g) 1000 grams= 1 kilogram
What is volume? It is the amount of space that something occupies
How can we measure volume? In mililitres (ml) 1000 mililitres= 1 litre
What do you use to measure mass? Scale
What do you use to measure volume? Measuring jug
Gases do not have definite size or..... a definite volume
Liquids do not have a definite shape but, they have a definite volume
Solids have.... definite shape and definite volume
How can we calculate density? Dividing the mass of an object by its volume (kg/l)
What does density explain? It explains why some objects float on water and why other sink
Why does cork float? Because cork has a lower density than water
Why does iron sink? Because iron density is greater than water
What is a force? It is push or a pull that acts on an object
What kind of forces act from a distance and do not make direct contact with the object? Non - contact forces Gravity Magnetism
What kind of forces act through physical contact? Contact forces Friction Buoyancy
What is gravity? It's a force that attracts all objects towards each others.
What is magnetism? It's a force of attraction or repulsion caused by magnetic objects
How does friction act? It acts in the opposite direction to the direction of the movement
How does buoyancy act? It acts in the opposite direction on objects immersed in a liquid
