Define a 'fine motor' skill? Fine motor skills are small movements- such as picking up small objects and holding a spoon- that use the small muscles of the fingers, toes, wrists, lips and tongue.
Five examples of fine motor skills? Writing. Drawing. Buttoning. Picking up spoons and forks. Turning pages.
Six examples of gross motor skills? Crawling. Pulling up to a stand. Cruising furniture. Walking. Waving. Jumping.
Why are fine motor skills significant in a child's development? Fine motor skills are essential for performing everyday skills like self care tasks. Without the ability to complete these everyday tasks, a child's self esteem can suffer and their academic performance is compromised.
Why are gross motor skills important in a child's development? Gross motor skills are those which require whole body movement and which involve the large muscles of the body to perform everyday functions, such as standing, walking, running, and sitting upright. It also includes eye-hand coordination skills such as ball skills.
Explain the difference between fine and gross motor skills? Fine motor skills is small muscular movements where as gross motor skills are large muscular movements. The difference is that fine motor skills are things like picking up stuff and small movements and gross motor skills are jumping up and down or running around, doing something that involves full body movement.
Can fine motor skills be or become impaired? Yes if children haven't reached their expectations of their age.
Five reasons as to why or how they can become impaired? Disabilities. Confidence issue. Not enough nutrients. Injury. Developmental delay.
By what age should a child have developed most of their gross motor skills by? By the time a child reaches 2 years of age they should have fully or partly developed their gross motor skills.
At what age should a child have developed most of their fine motor skills by? Between 6 to 9 months a baby can start to reach for objects.
