Aerobic and anaerobic respiration	Lets revise!
What is aerobic respiration?	Aerobic respiration is the form of respiration which uses oxygen.
What is the equation?	glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water (+ energy)
Where do most of the reactions happen in animal and plant cells?	Mitochondria, tiny objects inside the cytoplasm of the cell. The reactions are controlled by enzymes.
How is the energy used by the organism?	It may be used to build up larger molecules from smaller ones. For example: - Plants make amino acids from sugars, nitrates and other nutrients - These amino acids are then built up into larger molecules - proteins
How is the energy used by animals?	To enable the muscles to contract so that the animals can move.
Why does the heart rate increase during exercise?	To supply more oxygen and glucose to the respiring cells
Why does anaerobic respiration occur during hard exercise?	There may be insufficient oxygen supplied to the muscle cells
What substance is glucose stored as in the muscles?	Glycogen
What is anaerobic respiration?	The incomplete breakdown of glucose.
What is the equation?	glucose → lactic acid (+ little energy)
