Advertising Any type of paid-for media that is designed to inform and influence potential existing customers
Aesthetics The sensory responses that people make to stimuli such as colour, shape, smell and touch. Visual aesthetics refers specifically to those that are concerned with appearance (i.e. the look of the product)
Automation The use of machinery, rather than people, in manufacturing and data processing
Barcode Unique pattern containing a code to identify an item.
Batch Production Manufacturing process in which components or products are produced in groups (batches) and not a continuous stream
Bauxite The naturally occurring ore in the earth's crust that aluminium is made from
Biodiversity The variety of animal and plant species in an area
Biofuels Fuel sources derived from agricultural crops
Biomass Organic matter such as timber and crops grown specifically to be burnt in order to generate heat and power or made into biofuels used in transport
Blister Packaging Packaging in which the product is sealed in plastic, usually with a card backing
Blow Moulding The process of using air, under pressure, to give form to hollow products using polymers (e.g. PET fizzy drinks bottle)
Bluetooth A radio-frequency (RF) based technology for wireless digital data communication over short distances
Brainstorm Hold a session to analyse terms and suggest solutions to problems
Brand Unique design, sign, symbol, words used to create an image that identifies a product and differentiates from its competitors
Built-in-obsolescence Business practice of deliberately out-dating a product before the end of its useful life and introducing a newer model or version
