Frage Antworten
Fractional Distillation is the breaking up of crude oil into its various fractions (Hydrocarbons) This is done in a fractionating column, and results a variety of other fuels being produced.
The smaller the hydrocarbon, the more volatile and the less viscous it becomes. The column allows each fraction to evaporate at different points, Each hydrocarbon has different boiling points, which allows them to evaporate at different parts of the column. The temperature ranges from 25 - 350 degrees Celsius.
The first fraction - Refinery Gases- is used in gas for stoves amongst other things. As it is the smallest fraction, it is very flammable, volatile and is not very viscous. It evaporates a 25 degrees Celsius.
The next fraction is gasoline (Petrol). This is used for fuels in cars, and has a very high demand. As it is far up the column, it's flammable, volatile and is not very viscous.
