LAN stands for local area network, a network in a small area or single organisation
WAN stands for wide area network , spans over a wide area or many organisations
STAR TOPOLOGY a star shaped network which connects many computers, there are no collisions and have low chance of failure however are expensive and depend on a switch
RING TOPOLOGY a ring shaped network which connects many computers, there are no collisions and are cheep to install however have a high chance of catastrophic failure and are difficult to expand
BUS TOPOLOGY a strait line of computers which connects many computers, cheep to install but have a high chance of collision, catastrophic failure and it gets slower as it gets bigger
IP ADDRESS a unique address assigned to every computer on a network . they are used to identify it . the smallest possible IP address in the world is 0.0.0.o and largest is 255.255.255.255
network advantages you can share files, logins and resources between many devices .
network disadvantages they are expensive, have many problems and come with risks of viruses and cable damage . They are hard to set up and are easy to hack
