Polyamide (nylon) From coal, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen. filament is stretched and spun into a yarn. Strong, elastic, can be perm pressed, non absorbent so good for rain and bad for sweat.
Polyester From petroleum, doesn't crease, non absorbing, static, strong, blends.
Polyurethrane from petri-chemical industry, replacing rubberized elastics, finer than rubber, made into foam for backing, stretches.
