The Breathing and Respiratory System By: Hamza Ahmed Year 8
What is the breathing and respiratory system? The breathing and respiratory system is a group of organs that take in oxygen and take out carbon dioxide.
Where is the breathing and respiratory system? It is in your chest.
What makes up the breathing and respiratory system?
What happens when you breathe in? Air enters your body and your diaphragm and muscles around your ribs contract.
What happens when you breathe out? Your muscles around your ribs relax and waste air (carbon dioxide) leaves your body.
What happens in the respiratory system? You breathe in air and it goes through your trachea, where it then enters the alveoli where oxygen goes to the red blood cells.
What is the trachea? The tube in your throat where air is passed through.
What is your lungs? Organs in the rib cage, that are like elastic sacs in which air is in, so that oxygen can pass into the blood and carbon dioxide be removed.
What is the alveoli? Alveoli are tiny sacs in lungs that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to move between the lungs and the blood cells.
What is the pharynx? The organ behind the nose and mouth, connecting them to the oesophagus.
What is the bronchus? Air passages of the lungs that separates from the windpipe.
What are bronchioles? Branches in which a bronchus separate.
What is the nasal cavity? The air filled space behind the nose.
What is the diaphragm? The muscle under the ribs that help with breathing.
What are red blood cells? The cells that carry oxygen (which makes them red) around your body.
What are some diseases in the respiratory system? Influenza, asthma and lung cancer.
What is influenza? A highly contagious infection of the respiratory passages ,it's also referred to as flu.
What is asthma? A condition in which a person's airways become inflamed and narrow which makes it difficult to breathe.
