Frage Antworten
Are sounds as we hear them analogue or digital? Analogue
How do computers store sound? They must convert analogue sound waves into digital values to store sound
What is used for this process? An analogue to digital converter
What is sampling? The process of recording sound and storing it digitally
What is the sample rate? The frequency at which the sound is sampled, or measured
What happens the more frequently the sound is sampled? The more accurate the recording of the sound is to what you hear
What is the digitally stored sound presented as? Binary
The greater the number of bits used to store the samples, _____ The more detailed each of the samples are
What is the bit depth? It describes the number of bits used to store each sample Sometimes referred to as Sample Resolution
What is sound synthesis? The term used to describe the process of taking digital sound files and playing through a speaker in a way that we can hear
What is interpolation? A process used to 'fill in the gaps' between samples and produce a more complete sound
What happens in interpolation? Two samples are analysed and used to estimate what the sound would have been like between these two samples, thus creating the illusion of more samples and increasing the quality of the sound
