THE PERIODIC TABLE OF THE ELEMENTS
WHAT ARE ATOMS ? Atoms are smallest particle of a chemical element that can exist.
What are atoms and molecules ? Atoms are basic building blocks of any matter.Combination of these atoms are molecules.Atoms are made of particles called protons, electrons & neutrons.Check this video for fun learning of atomic structure.Interesting animation lesson for children on structure of atoms .
How does an atom become charged ? Atoms are neutral; they contain the same number of protons as electrons. By definition, an ion is an electrically charged particle produced by either removing electrons from a neutral atom to give a positive ion or adding electrons to a neutral atom to give a negative ion. When an ion is formed, the number of protons does not change.
What is matter ? Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.
What is matter made of ? A definition of "matter" more fine-scale than the atoms and molecules definition is: matter is made up of what atoms and molecules are made of, meaning anything made of positively charged protons, neutral neutrons, and negatively charged electrons.
What are atoms made of ? protons An atom itself is made up of three tiny kinds of particles called subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and the neutrons make up the center of the atom called the nucleus and the electrons fly around above the nucleus in a small cloud.
What is a proton ? a stable subatomic particle occurring in all atomic nuclei, with a positive electric charge equal in magnitude to that of an electron.
are proton, neutron, in the nucleus? yes
What is an Electron ? a stable subatomic particle with a charge of negative electricity, found in all atoms and acting as the primary carrier of electricity in solids.
What is a nucleus ? the central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth.
