Frage Antworten
Why do we say fossil fuels are "nonrenewable"? Because they draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle, becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve.
Solar and wind energy are... Renewable energy resources.
Why do we call some energy resources "renewable"? Because they are constantly replenished and will never run out.
Which are the five most commonly used renewable energy sources? - Biomass - Hydropower - Geothermal - Wind - Solar
What is biomass? Biomass is organic material that comes from plants and animals
How does biomass work? When biomass is burned, the chemical energy in it is released as heat. Also biomass can be converted to liquid biofuels and biogas.
What is the source of hydroelectric power? Water.
What does hydropower include? Tidal power, wave power, and ocean thermal energy conversion.
What is geothermal energy? Is heat from within the earth that can be recovered as steam or as hot water.
Where is geothermal energy generated? In the Earth's core.
What is wind energy? Is the process by which the wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity.
How does a turbine work? The wind turns the blades, which spin a shaft, which connects to a generator and makes electricity.
How solar energy can be converted into electricity? In two ways: - With solar cells - By concentrating solar energy to heat a fluid
What is said to be the future of modern energy supply? Solar and smart.
What do smart grids will be able to do? They will control and monitor power generation, store, distribute and consume electricity.
Why does renewable energy play an important role in reducing pollution? Because they do not directly emit greenhouse gases.
What are greenhouse gases? Many chemical compounds found in the earth’s atmosphere that absorb infrared radiation and trap its heat in the atmosphere.
