Assumptions of BEHAVIOURISM -Only interested in what can be observed and measured. -Introspection- rely solely on lab experiments -Basic processes that govern learning are the same in all species
Assumptions of the SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY -Much of behaviour is learned through experience -Learn through OBSERVATION and IMITATION -Learning occurs both directly and INDIRECTLY
Assumptions of COGNITIVE approach -Directly contrasts behaviourists, believes internal working processes can and should be studied. -Focus on memory, perception and thinking (areas neglected by behaviourists). -Study indirectly by making inferences about what is going on in the mind.
Assumptions of the BIOLOGICAL approach -The mind is in the brain and is therefore biological. -To understand thoughts and feelings we need to understand biological processes. -Contrast to the cognitive approach that sees the mind and brain as separate.
Assumptions of the PSYCHODYNAMIC approach -A perspective that describes the different forces, most of which are unconscious, that direct our mind and human behaviour.
Assumptions of the HUMANISTIC approach -An approach to understanding behaviour that emphasises the importance of subject experience and a persons capacity for self-determination.
