Frage Antworten
Where are the nerve cell bodies located in the spinal cord? Central gray matter
What is located in the ventral horn? Motor nuclei that send axons out via ventral nerve root filaments; Primarily Laminae IX, which is motor nuclei for skeletal muscles.
Which artery supplies the anterior 2/3 of the spinal cord? Anterior spinal artery
Which artery supplies the posterior 1/3? Posterior spinal artery
Why is there more gray matter at the cervical and lumbar levels of the SC? Because of motor nuclei for the arms and legs
Why is there more white matter in the cervical region of the SC? Because at cervical levels, most ascending fibers have entered the cord on their way up to the cortex and most descending fibers have not yet reached their target motor nuclei.
What part of the body do the lateral motor systems control? Where are the cell bodies for these neurons located (specifically) in the SC? Distal limb movements, favoring flexors. The cell bodies are located in lateral portion of spinal cord to synapse on lateral motor nuclei.
What part of the body do the medial motor systems control? Where are the cell bodies for these neurons located (specifically) in the SC? Medial control posture (extensors) and proximal movements. The cell bodies are located in medial portion of spinal cord to synapse on medial motor nuclei and travel in anterior medial portion.
