What is job production? Job production, or one off production is when a product is made only once to meet specific specifications.
What is flow production? Flow production involves an assembly line and is used for high volume production.
What is batch production? Batch production is when a batch of products are made in a certain way. E.g a baker may make a batch of brown bread, then change it to a batch of white bread.
What are the advantages of flow production? 1. High scale production done quick 2. Many products can be produced at a low cost. 3. There is less chance of error in products as it is mostly done by machine.
What are the disadvantages of flow production? 1. It can be expensive to set up. 2. If one machine breaks, that can affect the whole line of assembly. 3. Lots of machinery means it is difficult to alter the process, and all the products will have to be similar. 4. The work can be boring for the employees involved.
What are the advantages of batch production? 1. Making in batches reduces high costs. 2. Specifications can be altered to the needs of the customer. 3. Use of specialist skills and machinery can increase output.
What are the disadvantages of batch production? 1. Time may be lost switching between batches and machinery may need to be reset. 2. Need to keep stock of raw materials. 3. Potentially de-motivating to staff.
What are the problems with the Chinese supplier? 1. They use too many non renewable resources. 2. The wages paid were low 3. There were concerns over health and safety.
