Frage Antworten
How is electricity distributed across the UK? Via the National Grid
How does the national grid work? Electrical energy is taken from power stations to where it's needed in homes and industry. In order to keep energy efficiency high, the voltage is boosted to a huge amount, whilst the current is very low
What two things are needed, so the National grid can keep voltage high, with current low? Transformer and Pylons
What are the two transformers used for? One is used so it can step up the voltage to a huge amount, whilst the step down transformer is used to bring it down to a safe level
What are the two ways electricity can be transported? Either through underground cables, or over head pylons
Give three pros of using over head cables, rather than underground cables 1) Lower set up cost 2) Easy to access and fix 3) Easy to set up
Give three pros for using underground cables, opposed to overhead pylons 1) Minimal maintenance is required 2) It is hidden from the public 3) It's not affected by weather
In the future, how will supply be increased? By opening more power plants or increasing their power output
How can electricity demand be reduced? By having consumers purchase more electrically efficient products
