Q5: How did youattract/address youraudience?Sound/Music:We have included a lot of tense building music andsound effects with the aim of hooking and engagingour target audience. A constant soundtrack is usedto build suspense and tension in the background ofthe opening. This will attract the audiencedemographic because it is a hint to us that theequilibrium will be interupted hence causing actionand drama. We also used a variety of different shortsounds throughout the opening to make sure it wasnot repetitive or boring but still show the dangerthe protagonist is facing. This makes the openingexciting and implies that there is an action elementof the film.EditingBecause our young target audience will not be interested bya boring opening sequence and probably wouldny continuewatching the film, we had to develop our editing skills to turnan average video into an eye catching one. Firstly, our openingwas very fast paced helped by lots of match on action shots. This helped engage the audience because it informed themthat this was building up to some kind of dramatic event, which it was. We also used a black screen to great effect i ouropening on two occasions. The first time we used this waswhen our protagonist was falling over but it was displayed asa point of view and as if he had collapsed, immersing theaudience and maybe leaving some questions as to why thishas happened. At the end of the sequence, another blackscreen is used after a long close up of the protagonist. This willattract our demographic because the sequence suddenlyends which adds tension and it provides the audience with areason to watch the rest of the film.Camera:A variation of camera angles helped us attract our targetaudience. An example of one abstract camera angle that we usedwas a point of view shot which helped the audience identify withthe protagonist as it was if they were experiencing what he wasgoing through. Our variety of possible secondary audiencescould possibly use this shot as a chance to escape because theyare seeing what a young teenager is seeing. We included manyother abstract shots like this to get the attention of theaudience as a sequence with similar shots would have beenboring. The filming of our sequence was done on a Cannon700D camera which made the production more high definitionthan a normal camera would have looked. This is attractive for theaudience because seeing this opening will make them think thatit is a professional production.Clothing:Choosing the right clothing and image for our protagonist wasn't justkey for the attraction of our audience but was also a good way to addressthem. We did not use much clothing in our opening due to the fact thatwe only had one character, this meant that our one protagonist had tobe presented right as he was the focus of the camera at all times. Webought a NHS gown as it not only provided a sense of realism for theaudience, but also deveoped into an enigma code, as at this stage theaudience are unaware of how the character got to where he is. Thisengages them to watch on and find out the reasons behind his illness.Location:The location of the opening was ourmost engaging element of the sequencefor our audience because it provided uswith some action codes and leftquestions to be answered that theaudience would hopefully watch on tofind the answer to. Our opening is set inan isolated forest which could make theaudience start to feel uneasy but willalso engage them because it suggeststhat there will be a disruption to theequilibrium.Protagonist:We made sure that the way that our actor acted suited the mood of theopening, helping engage the audience. This is because this was one of themost vital parts to attract the audience because he is of a similar age tothem. A male audience will be able to build a stroonger bond with theprotagonist later on in the film where some of his hobbies and interestswill be revealed. Our protagonist will also be going through what ourprimary audience will e going through, meaning that they would watchthe film to be educated and to identify with him. To further attract theattention of the audience, we have only included this character in ouropening, although there will be many others. This clarifies to them thatthe film will be based around this character and is also quiteunconventional which is engaging. The very cautious and nervy actionsfrom our actor also give a clear image that he is mentally unstable alongwith many other elements in the opening.Institution:Because our audience will bepredominantly from the UK, theIndependent and UK basedcompanies that we have chose toproduce our film will help attractour audience. This is becuaseFilm4 are well established inproducing similar films to ours sowe thought that people may beencouraged to watch it because ofthis. Our audience will alsorecognise these companies.Font:Voice over:Our voiceovers were used to great effect when engaging theaudience as well as developing the narrative. We includedvoice overs after watching The Breakfast Club where theirvoice overs not only develop the narrative but also engage theaudience because it was as if the protagonist is speaking to theaudience. The first voice over that we included in our sequencewas a police radio call which informed the audience that therewas a potential danger or that the equilibrium will bedisrupted. The audience would therefore watch this film toescape from everyday woes and also to be entertained. Wealso used a phone call from the protagonists mother. The voicemail tone will provide the young audience with some realismand the mothers voice sounds distressed to attract theattention of the audience. This will be relevant to our primaryaudiences lives as their mums will be a huge influence. We made sure that our font had youthful connotations which teenagersfrom the age of 13-21 would be attracted by. Therefore, we chose atypewriter font as we thought that this would portray the fact that ourfilm was coming of age. It was important we clarified the genre with thetypography because the other elements in our opening didn't instantlymake you think of this genre. The typography that we used for the titlewas developed as it was slightly distorted. This was done with theintention of engaging our audience because it could signify a disruptionto an equilibrium. Hence, this will be engaging to the majority of ouraudience that want to watch the film to be entertained. Another waythat our typography attracted our audience was by our use of keynote. This software allowed us to position the text wherever we wanted on thescreen which meant that they didnt appear in the same place everytime, keeping the audience on their toes.Double click this nodeto edit the textClick and drag this buttonto create a new node
