San Diego State University is Great, Here’s 10 Reasons Why…
FYI: This was written by an actual Aztec who graced the SDSU halls, majored in Public Administration and now works for USA Rugby so be reassured that this is the real deal. Whether you’re contemplating coming to SDSU or are in the midst of your degree, we think you’ll enjoy these next 10 points, whether you agree or not. As any student, past or present can testify, SDSU is up there as one of the greats.
1. The ‘Moving Landmark’
The San Diego Trolley also known as the ‘moving landmark’ runs right into SDSU and stops at the schools very own campus underground train station which is perfect for those of us who prefer to use our legs as little as possible. Shopping is a sport right?
2. The Undie Run
This event needs no more explanation, thousands of students throw on their best birthday suit and take part in this tradition every year to relieve some stress during finals. If you’re a little shy or nervous just picture everyone in their underwear running around like loonatics… oh wait…
3. The Popular Kids
SDSU is the largest university in San Diego and the third largest in the state and with nearly 100,000 students applying to SDSU every year so for those accepted, you know you’re amongst some of the best students in the country #winning
4. Night Owls
If you’re a night owl and agree that sleep is for the weak, then The Reserve Book Room is your go to study spot. It’s perfect for those nights you need to cram with it being open 24 hours a day, but be warned, it smells of tears and caffeine. If the twitching becomes too much, you should head to one of the Aztec Nights events where it smells a little more like beer and people actually smiling 🙂
A sporting University
5. A Caring Bunch
SDSU students are extremely lucky to have such great administrators who genuinely care whether their students are succeeding or not, both in and out of the classroom. They will always go the extra mile to help you out so make sure to make use of them whenever you have a question or need support – there are no dumb questions! …that’s a lie, there are a lot of dumb questions but ask anyway!
6. Keeping Good Company
After four (ish) years at SDSU you’ll become part of an exclusive alumni network of cool cats, some of which include Carl Weathers aka “Apollo Creed” from the Rocky movies, Julie Kavner aka “Marge Simpson”, and Robert Peterson, the founder of Jack in the Box fast food and the incredible, artery clogging stacked grilled cheese burger.
7. Surfs Up
Literally nothing beats going to a university that’s right down the road from the beach. With the perfect year-round California sun and blue Pacific Ocean, SDSU students are living in paradise. Also some exciting news that the university’s new official motto’s have recently become ‘hang ten dude‘, ‘shred the gnar’ and ‘righteous bro’.
8. Greek Life
With fraternal organizations being a core component of the SDSU community since 1899 and 91% of both male and female students being a part of a fraternity or sorority, you can bank on the fact you’ll α) grow as a person β) make some life long friends and θ) have some fun.
9. Getting Involved
The university has over 300 student organizations which is another way that SDSU makes the large campus feel much smaller, and manageable. No matter what your hobbies and interests are, the school is bound to offer something to suit you. The Lebanese Social Club? Yes. Figure Skating Club? Yup. Finance Investment Society? Oh yeah.
10. Animals Galore
You get to live in San Diego where there’s never a shortage of things to do, especially if you’re into things of the wild. San Diego has a Seaworld right on the bay, the Wild Animal Park and sanctuary, the world renowned San Diego Zoo with over 3700 animals and… drum roll… LEGOLAND! It counts.
