>After this Japan emerged as a important regional an international power. >1858 Japan signed the treaty of Amity and commerce with US. >Then opposed by imperial court. >dominated by nationalism. >"repeling the barbarians". >Then signed treaties with other Western nations.
Meiji Restoration (1868) >Because the treaties , it had to be signed by the emperor's consent >Thinkers as: -Aisawa Seishisai -Sakuma Zozan >Favoured learning from western science and technology >Important for them the traditional moral values.

>Satsuma-Chosu- clan Victorious. >January 1868 established a imperial court. >Named "Tokyo". >1868 system continued without interruptions >Prevent Japan from suffering the fate of several others. >Japan prosperes. >Strong military forces and became influential in 1920's & 1930's.
