French and Indian War (7 Year's War) Began in 1754 | It was Britain vs. France, but Indians teamed up with France. British won. In 1763, there was a peace conference. The british recieved Canada from France, and Florida from Spain. That opened the mississippi valley to westward expansion. |
Proclamation of 1763 | Issued by Britain to calm the Indians by stopping westward expansion by the colonists, and increasing their fur trade opportunities. The line of settlement was established along the Appalachian Mountains. This started the Pontiac War because the Indians wanted the French back. After the acquisition of French and Spainish territiories. |
Stamp Act | First internal tax, directly placed on colonies. It taxed all paper goods and documents. A stamp was placed to prove tax was paid. It was after the 7 years war, and Britain was heavily in dept. They looked to the colonies as a revenue source. Colonists resorted to mob ciolence to intimidate british tax collectors. It was repealled in 1766, but immediatly replaced with declaratory act, which stated that Britain could pass any law/act/legislation ist saw fit. |
