Question Answer
The Four Humor's Middle Ages The four humours was a theory devised by Hippocrates. It was the idea that there where four elements in the body. @Blood @Phlegm @yellow bile @black bile. If you had an imbalance of the humours you would become ill. To put the Humor's back into balance you could use exercise, purging and bleeding to fix it. The reason that the church liked this theory was that it made the body look like it was in perfect balance. Until it was ill, then it was imperfect and out of balance.
Theory Of Opposites Middle Ages This theory was aa development fo the four humour's theory. It would attempt to balance the humour with the opposite of the humour that is imbalanced. For example, if you had an imbalance of blood you would treat it with something hot. Black bile-cold Yellow bile-wet Phlegum-dry
Astrology Middle Ages This was the theory that the alignment of the stars and planets cause disease The use of astrology was used more through the 13th century
Bad air/Miasma This theory stated that the cause of the disease was because of bad air, wasn't called miasma until the Renaissance It was linked with sin, as sin was associated with bad air. Originated in ancient times and persisted well into the 19th century.
