Question Answer
WHAT IS DISTANCES? Distance is a measurement of how far apart objects are. From one place to another is the distance of something.
WHAT IS DISPLACEMENT? Displacement is a measurement of the change in position of a moving body. A straight line connecting the start and end points specified in terms of length and direction.
WHAT IS SPEED? Speed is a measure of how fast something is moving. When an object moves faster the distance he/she is travelling is covered in a shorter amount of time.
WHAT IS AVERAGE SPPED? Average speed is a measure of how fast an objects moves overall Not including when the object stopped or change in speed.
WHAT IS INSTANTANEOUS SPEED? Instantaneous speed is the speed of an object at a particular moment.
DOPPLER EFFECT? As a car is driving at a high speed, the frequency (number of waves passing each second) will change greatly. That's known as doppler effect.
DEVICES USED TO MEASURE SPEED? 1) Fixed speed cameras 2) Light gates 3) Multi - flash photograph 4) Ticker timer
SPEED CAMERAS? Speed cameras measure the speed of vehicles by measuring the time a vehicle takes to travel from one sensor to another.
LIGHT GATES? Light gates use a sensor to trigger an electric timing mechanism when an object breaks through a light beam.
MULTI-FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY? Multi-flash photography - the spacing between each image represents exactly the same time.
TICKER TIME? Ticker time is a device that could be used to measure speed. When the timer is attached to an object moving in a straight line, dots record its motion.
SPEEDING AND DRIVING? When driving you must be alert and know what you are doing. You must have quick reactions when in need of immediate thinking.
REACTION TIME? The time it takes for someone to react to an emergency is known as their reaction time. For a person who is alert it should take about 0.15-0.30 seconds.
REACTION DISTANCE? While the car is still travelling you must react and think quickly in order to stop/brake in time. Usually it takes a driving 4-8 m until it actually starts braking.
DRIVING WHILE BEING DISTRACTED? To avoid any accident you must be alert, mentally & psychically stable and be focus. Things that distracted you are 1) Use of mobile phone 2) Other people 3) Changing the radio station
CALCULATIONS? 1) From Km/h to m/s must divide by 3.6 and from m/s to Km/h must multiply by 3.6 2) Average speed = Distance travelled divided by time taken
DISTANCE-TIME GRAPH? Distance time graph shows how far an object travels as time progresses. A line with a steep slope means the objects covers a greater distance and is moving faster. The slope is also known as gradient. A flat line on the graph shows the object has stopped.
SPEED-TIME GRAPH? A speed time graph shows how an object's speed changes over time. A OBJECTS SPEED MAY: 1) Be constant (flat line) 2) Increase (graph rising up) 3) Decrease (graph falling downwards)
