Question Answer
Epithelial Tissues are composed of Cells that are layered on top of one another
Simple Squamous Epithelial Tissue - Single layer of cells - Flattened cells - LOCATION: lining of blood vessels & lungs
Simple Epithelial Tissue - Single layer of cells - FUNCTION: Absorption, diffusion, & excretion
Stratified Epithelial Tissue - 2 or more cell layers - FUNCTION: Protection
Pseudo-stratified Epithelial Tissue - Single, staggered layer of cells - Ciliated (cilia sweep mucus across cell surface)
Simple Columnar Epithelial Tissue - Single layer of cells - Column shaped - LOCATION: Stomach & Intestines
Adipose Connective Tissue - Large clustered cells used for fat storage - LOCATION: beneath skin, around organs & heart. - FUNCTIONS: Insulation / Fat Storage - Fat comes from an excess of carbohydrates & proteins.
Loose Fibrous (Areolar) Connective Tissue - Space between components - FUNCTIONS: Support & Binding of organs - COMPOSED OF: Elastic Fiber / Collagen Fiber / Fibroblast - LOCATION: beneath skin & most epithelial layers
Epithelial Tissue Location This tissue always faces either a free surface (e.g. skin / lining of the mouth) and opposite of that part of the cells attach to basement membrane.
