The Renaissance Why did it start in Italy? * The old Roman Empire inspired them. * They had the money, patrons etc
What is Humanism? A new way of thinking about life. A new philosophy, basically. CHANGES IN ART * The themes changed from Religious stories to scenes from stories. *They put more detail into people, their facial expressions etc. * They thought of Perspective. Perspective is a 3D picture, painted straight from what the eye can see.
* Freasco. This was when they panted on wet plaster. * Ailtireacht. They used big columns and circulars in architecture. *Sculpting. They did sculptures of people - Michelanglo who did David. Lorenzo De Medici and Cosmo de Medici were both rich patrons.
Leonardo Da Vinci was born in Vinci, beside Florence. His father was a lawyer. He went as an apprentice to Verrochio in Florance. The first piece of art he did was the Angel in Baistead Chriost. When he was qualified he went to work in Milano. When he was there he panted the Mhaighdean Ar Na Carraigeacha. He used the technique sfumato for the v first time. SFUMATO IS AN UNCLEAR OUTLINE ON THE PEOPLE OR THING IN THE PICTURE. Da Vinci thought of this technique. When Da Vinci went back to Florence, he painted the Mona Lisa. It is one of the most famous paintings in the world and you can see it now in the Louvre in Paris.
Da Vinci had a special notebook where he put down all his thoughts. He wrote with his left hand and moved the words around. You had to get a mirror to read them. Why did the renaissance spread? Printing and the European patrons started copying Italy.
Albrecht Durer - Painter outside of Italy. Painted an Fód Mór Móna. He was born in Nuremburg in Germany. His father was a goldsmith. When he was 13 he did a self portrait and it was so good his father sent him as an apprentice to the best artist in his area. After being qualified he traveled to Italy. He did lots of pictures of plants and animals an they were very detailed. An example of the detail is in his painting An Fod Mor Mona. He is famous for his self portraits. He did a lot of them because he wanted people to remember his face. He was also famous for his carvings, such as Breith ár dTiarna. Durer died from catching a fever off a dead whale he was painting. A Development in Science - The telescope. A development in Medicine - The heart pumped the blood around the body.
Results Of The Renaissance * Education improved because of printing. (Johannes Gutenburg) More books were made, more people able to read etc. * Improvements in Medicine and Science. * People started questioning Religion.
