Disinfection | Killing of bacteria, fungi and some viruses but not spores Normally by use of special chemicals |
Sterilisation | Killing all micro-organisms and spores to produce asepsis Autoclave needed and process happens under steam and high pressures |
Decontamination | Process of of removing those things that contaminate from reusable items so that they are safe to be used again. Involves 4 stages: cleaning, disinfection, inspection, sterilisation. |
Asepsis | Absence of all living pathogenic micro-organisms |
