What does Avogadro's number represent? (6.02 X 10 ^23) | It represents the number of carbon atoms in 12g of carbon. One mole of any type of particle contains this number in particles whether they're atoms, ions or molecules. |
The mass of one mole (1 mol of atoms of an element) is equal to what? | It's equal to its relative atomic mass in grams. EG/ 1 mol of hydrogen atoms has a mass of 1g and 1 mol of carbon atoms has a mass of 12g. |
What is the equation that shows how to work out the number of moles of an element? | number of moles= mass(g) / relative atomic mass |
The relative formula mass of a substance is the sum of all the atoms in its formula. Use Methane CH4 as your example. | CH4= 16 (12 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1) |
