Question | Answer |
B1.4 Respiration | Equations |
The two main stages -light energy splits water into Oxygen has and hydrogen ions -carbon dioxide combines with hydrogen to create glucose | Light is absorbed by pigment called chlorophyll. This is in the chloroplasts where photosynthesis happens CO2 enters through the stomata Water enters throug the roots and come through the Xylem. |
Wash products -oxygen is formed -some is used for the plants respiration -the rest is released and used for animals and some microorganisms. | Ways to measure photosynthesis -amount of oxygen produced -carbon dioxide uptake -carbohydrate production |
Factors effecting photosynthesis- light intensity Without enough light, a plant cannot photosynthesize very quickly. -increased light-increased rate of photosynthesis.
Limiting factors- carbon dioxide -it is one of the reactants (along with water) -increasing the concentration will increase the rate until there is another limiting factor. | Again, at some point, a factor may become limiting. |
Limiting factors- temperature -the reaction that combines water and carbon dioxide is controlled by enzymes. -at low temperatures, the rate of photosynthesis is limited by collisions. High temperatures cause the enzyme to denature.
