Question | Answer |
What is refraction? | The bending of light; the light's change of speed and direction. |
What is a luminous source and how do we see them? | They are objects that create light and because light spreads out in all different directions from the luminous source and some of it goes into our eyes. |
Why can we see non-luminous objects? | Light bounces off them and enters our eyes. |
How does light travel? | In straight lines. |
How are shadows made? | · When light cannot travel through some objects (opaque). · Light cannot bend around them. · When light is blocked by an object. |
Why do pupils expand in dim light? | To let more of the light rays go through because there is less of them. |
Why do pupils get smaller in bright light? | To not let too much light in as that can damage your eyes. |
Explain how we see images (eyes) | 1. The light rays go through the pupil. 2. A tiny upside-down image forms on the retina at the back of the eye. 3. The retina changes light energy into electrical signals (impulses). 4. The impulses travel to the brain along the optic nerve, your brain allows you to see the image the right way up. |
What do you call the objects that you can only a see a glow of light through something? | Translucent |
What do you call objects that light cannot travel through? | Opaque |
What happens when an object absorbs light? | The energy is transferred to heat energy and the object warms up a little |
What is reflection? | Light bouncing back from a surface instead of passing through it. |
