A computer An electronic, programmable data processing machine
A system A collection of parts that work together for some defined purpose
A computer system A collection of hardware and software that works together to achieve some data processing task
Input and Output Device A piece of hardware that is used to enter raw data into a computer or device and a piece of hardware used to communicate a result of data processing
A system boundary A boundary that separates a system from the outside world (often called user interfaces)
Hardware The physical components of a computer system - anything that can be seen or touched
Boot sequence A sequence of processes that contains all the information and instructions to get the computer up and running (boot loader starts this sequence)
CPU Central Processing Unit carries out all the processing in a computer by fetching, decoding and executing data stored in memory
Software A collection of computer programs and related data that provides the instructions for telling the computer what to do and how to do it
