What is recycling? The sorting of items into groups according to the material they are made of so that they can be reused. This reduces the amount of raw materials used and pollution emitted.
What is sustainability? a measure of whether something could continue into the long-term future.
What is an environmentally friendly office? An office that is designed to have a minimum impact on its environment
How would an office become environmentally friendly? -Constructed from materials that are sustainable -built on 'brown field site' where buildings had been before -Insulation=efficient heat usage -eco-friendly paint = less pollution/fumes
Why might a business be interested in becoming environmentally friendly? Either because -Moral beliefs =have genuine concern for the environment, benefits others -save money= reduce spending on resources, paperless office, low energy lightbulbs -public relations exercise= logos act as endorsements, increasing sales = competitive advantage
What’s ethics? Moral principles that determine decisions that are made
What are the disadvantages of becoming environmentally friendly? -May not be the cheapest in the short term= businesses may not be able to afford the greenest option -Owners more concerned on revenue -Some customers may suffer= e.g only using website catalogues but some may not have internet
