What is simony? When a person buys a position in the Church and collects the salary that goes with it.
What is nepotism? When an official in the Church gives a position to a relative, even when they are undeserving/unqualifying.
Who was Hus? What did he do? Hus criticized the Roman Catholic Church and was condemned by a Church council to be burned at the stake.
Who was Wycliffe? What did he do? Wycliffe initiated the first translation of the Bible into the vernacular. He, like Luther, believed that everybody should be able to interpret the Bible for themselves.
Who is Erasmus? Erasmus tried to fix the Catholic Church from within. He published books criticizing the faults of the Church.
What is heresy? What is a heretic? Heresy is the crime of going directly against the teachings of the Church. A heretic is someone who commits the crime of heresy.
What are indulgences? Indulgences are rather like insurance policies for the soul. People would have to buy an indulgence for every mortal sin they committed in order to get themselves to heaven.
Who is Tetzel? Tetzel was the monk selling indulgences near the University of Wittenberg (Germany), near where Martin Luther lived.
