| Observation | Using the five senses to interact with the environment. |
| percent deviation | The amount of error in a measurement. |
| cyclic change | Events occurring in a predictable pattern. |
| dynamic equilibrium | A balance between opposing forces. |
| volume | The amount of space an object takes up. |
| inference | An educated guess. An hypothesis. |
| interface | A boundary across which energy is exchanged. |
| rate of change | How much something changes over time. |
| density | How tightly packed the atoms are in an object. |
| Experimental Design | Describes the manner in which you test your hypothesis through experimention |
| Independent Variable | this variable is changed by the researcher and observations are made to see if the change has an impact on the dependent variables. |

| Control Group | this group does not receive the independent variable. This group is used to compare to as the “normal” or “baseline”. |

| Data: | anything that can be observed/measured in an experiment. |
| Quantitative Data | anything that can be measured with numbers |
| Qualitative Data | Observations not related to quantities or numbers |

| How do you find the volume of an irregularly shaped object? | Put water into a graduated cylinder Measure the volume of the water place object in the cylinder, remeasure the water level subtract the first level from the second level |
