Responsibility Something that someone is required to do as a part of a job, role, or legal obligation
Naturalization The process of which U.S citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen after he or she fulfills the requirements by the Congress in the immigration & Nationality Act
Alien A foreigner who is not a naturalized citizen in the country in which they are living or a belonging of a foreign country
Immigrant A person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country
Refugee One who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural diaster
Illegal Alien One who has entered the U.S illegally and is able to be deported if caught by the government
Deportation The action of deporting (removing) a foreigner from a country
Exploration The act of traveling in or through an unfamiliar country in or to learn about it
The Melting Pot Theory A country, locality, or situation in which cultural assimilation results in the blending the heritage and tradition of previous cultures
Government The governing body of a country, state, or community ; system of ruling
Levels of government 1) National 2) State 3) Local
Supremacy Clause The clause in the U.S Constitution stating that all made furthering the Constitution and the treaties made under the authority of the U.S are the "supreme law of the land"
Autocracy A system of government by which one person has all power
Oligarchy A government governed by a small group of people
Democracy A government governed by the whole population
Direct Democracy Form of government in which all laws are created by a general vote of society
Representative Democracy (Indirect Democracy) A variety of democracy founded on the principle of elected officials representing a group of people
Salad Bowl Theory Times when newly arrived immigrants do not lose the unique aspects of their cultures like in the melting pot model, instead they retain them.
