What feature does an alkene have which means it can be identified as an alkene? A carbon to carbon double bond
What is the first cycloalkane? Cyclopropane
What is the definition of a homologous series? A family of hydrocarbons with the same general formula, similar chemical properties and a trend in their physical properties
What happens in an addition reaction? The double bond breaks, allowing the reactant to attach which makes a new product
What's an unsaturated hydrocarbon? A hydrocarbon which contains at least one carbon to carbon double bond.
What's a saturated hydrocarbon? A hydrocarbon which only contains carbon to carbon single bonds
What can alkanes be used for? Gases/fuel Lubricants Paraffin - candles
What is cracking? An industrial method for producing short chain alkanes and alkenes
