Fertility treatment Treatment given to enable women to conceive
Artificial insemination by donor (AID) A form of fertility treatment using donor sperm
Artificial insemination by husband (AIH) A form of fertility treatment using the husband (or partner's sperm)
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) A form of fertility treatment in which eggs are fertilised outside the womb
Cloning The technique used to produce a genetically identical copy of an organism
Genetic engineering The modification of a person's genetic structure usually to cure disease
Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) The body that oversees the use of embryos in earth tiling treatment and research
Surrogacy An alternative to standard fertility treatment in which a woman gives birth to a baby on behalf of another couple who is not necessarily one of he genetic parents
Hybrid embryo An embryo created by inserting human genetic material into an empty cow's egg
Saviour sibling A baby conceived using PGD & IVF so their cord blood can be used to treat a sick sibling
