PVU classification scale elite vocal performers - require max vocal performance professional VU - voice is integral part, need stamina over long periods Non-vocal professionals - can do job if moderately dysphonic non-vocal non-professional - VD unlikely effect job
Acute vocal strain hoarseness/harshness, impaired range, VF appear oedematuous and have prominent midportion. Tx - voice rest, soft attack, hydration, muscle relaxation
viral respiratory illness redness and oedema confined to VF and supraglottic structures. Tx - voice rest, steam, avoid antihistamines
haemorrhage acute haemorrhage of VF. due to forceful cough or using high range voice. complete voice rest until haemorrhage resolved (approx 14 days)
VF bowing due to high protein diet
gastric reflux laryngitis red arytenoids, increased warm up time, reflux worsens prone horizontal position, after meal. Tx- medical, elevate head of bed 15-20 degrees
problems due to drugs asprin -> capillary fragility -> haemorrhage antihistamines -> dries mucosal lining
