Being an active citizen | Having the knowledge skills and understanding to participate in society and the ability to bring about change |
Campaigning | An organised series of events and activities that seek to influence the views of others |
Community Action | Citizens coming together in regards to an issue, or trying to bring about a change |
Democracy | A society where citizens have an open and fair election system, and are able to vote in regular elections |
Direct Action | Campaigning that can include non-violent and violent activities which targets people, groups or property |
Indirect Action | Campaigning that can include support for a group, signing petitions or lobbying for a group |
Freedom (Association, Speech, Vote) | The ability to act in a certain way without inference i.e. Freedom of Accosiation - to be able to meet freely with others without fear of procecution |
Participation | Taking part in society through formal processes like voting or standing for election, or informal processes like volunteering or joining community groups |
Pressure groups | Groups of citizens, normally linked together in a group, who share the same view regarding bringing about a change |
