Question Answer
CPU (Central Processing Unit) The 'brain' of the computer, processing information. Many things have them, including computers, laptops and even washing machines!
Motherboard The motherboard connects the CPU to the other hardware. The CPU sits on the Motherboard.
RAM (Random Access Memory) A storage unit in which programs and applications are stored. They have be edited and deleted.
ROM (Read Only Memory) Information is stored in ROM which cannot be deleted or written over, such as the ability to turn on and off.
Graphics card The Graphics card produces the visuals of the computer, the stuff on the screen.
Sound Card To produce sound, the computer must be fitted with a sound card. This is often attached to the motherboard or installed separately.
PSU (Power Supply Unit) The PSU supplies the components with power. The power supply converts a 110-115 or 220-230 volt alternating current into a steady low-voltage direct current that the computer can use.
CPU Fan/Heat Sink Used to keep the CPU cool and stop it from overheating.
Hard Drive The Hard Disk Drive, sometimes referred to as the Hard Drive, HD or HDD, stores or retrieves information.
