Question Answer
Amplitude The height from the point of equilibrium to the highest point of a crest or the lowest point of a trough
Frequency the number of waves produced in a source (typically in a given amount of time)
Period time it takes to complete one oscillation
Wavelength the distance between one point on a wave and the same point on the next one
Diffraction When waves spread out when they pass an edge
Reflection when a wave is bounced off a surface
Refraction the result of passing through mediums of various densities - changes direction
Critical angle The angle at which the light ray is refracted enough that that it becomes parallel to the surface
Analogue Frequency and amplitude constantly changing
Digital Pulses with two states, either on or off
Frequency of human hearing 20 - 20,000 Hz
Ultrasound A sound of frequency above 20,000 Hz (heard by dolphins, dogs and bats)
Infrasound A sound of frequency below 20 Hz (heard by elephants and cats)
Pitch The higher the frequency, the higher the pitch
Volume The higher the amplitude, the higher the volume (remember the ruler!)
