Question | Answer |
Amplitude | The height from the point of equilibrium to the highest point of a crest or the lowest point of a trough |
Frequency | the number of waves produced in a source (typically in a given amount of time) |
Period | time it takes to complete one oscillation |
Wavelength | the distance between one point on a wave and the same point on the next one |
Diffraction | When waves spread out when they pass an edge |
Reflection | when a wave is bounced off a surface |
Refraction | the result of passing through mediums of various densities - changes direction |
Critical angle | The angle at which the light ray is refracted enough that that it becomes parallel to the surface |
Analogue | Frequency and amplitude constantly changing |
Digital | Pulses with two states, either on or off |
Frequency of human hearing | 20 - 20,000 Hz |
Ultrasound | A sound of frequency above 20,000 Hz (heard by dolphins, dogs and bats) |
Infrasound | A sound of frequency below 20 Hz (heard by elephants and cats) |
Pitch | The higher the frequency, the higher the pitch |
Volume | The higher the amplitude, the higher the volume (remember the ruler!) |
