Question Answer
Arc A part of the circumference. If the circle is split, the circumference is split into two arcs: the major arc is the arc that is longest while the minor arc is the shorter of the two.
Chord A line running across a circle that joins two points on it.
Circumference The perimeter of a circle. Equal to 2πr.
Diameter A chord through the centre of the circle.
Radius The distance from the centre of a circle to any point on its circumference.
Sector A region of a circle between two radii and their cut-off arc.
Segment A region in a circle between a chord and its cut-off arc. Like an arc, it is split into two: the major segment is the segment between the chord and the MAJOR arc while the minor segment is the segment between the chord and the MINOR arc.
Tangent A line touching one point of the outside of a circle (the point of contact.)
