Question Answer
What is appeasement? A policy of using negotiation rather than force to preserve peace between nations
Who created appeasement? Neville Chamberlain. He believed he could negotiate and reason with Hitler if Hitler's aims were reasonable. Appeasement became a key policy after the failure of the League of Nations.
Reasons FOR appeasement? Solve German grievances. Avoid another costly war. Strengthen Germany in case of problems with the USSR.
Reasons AGAINST appeasement? Hitler couldn't be trusted. Appeasement would make Chamberlain look weak and Hitler would think Britain couldn't stand up to him. Allowed Hitler to strengthen his position.
